Product description

An evergreen shrub with a compact, spherical habit, reaching about 1.4 m in height and a similar width at the age of 10. The leaves are elliptical, dark green, shiny, lighter on the underside, up to 14 cm long and about 6 cm wide, they do not fall in winter. Dark pink flowers in bud, dark pink when opened with a lighter center and a green-yellow pattern on the upper petal. During flowering the color of the flowers gradually brightens. The shape of the flower is funnel-shaped, its diameter is approx. 9 cm, and the petals have wavy edges. The flowers are gathered in large spherical inflorescences on the top of the shoots, several dozen pieces. Flowering begins at the end of May and usually lasts until mid-June. Withstands frost down to -20 °C. The variety is recommended for planting singly or in groups in home gardens, on heaths, in the company of other heather plants (azaleas, rhododendrons, heathers, heathers, etc.). Due to its compact dimensions, it can also be grown in a pot.

Position and cultivation

Rhododendron should be planted on permeable, acidic (pH 4.5 - 6.0) and moist soil. If we have poor soil, it is worth buying a special acidic substrate for rhododendrons and azaleas, available at most garden stores. It is best to choose a position sheltered from the wind, sunny or slightly shaded. Due to the shallow root system, even old rhododendron specimens can be transplanted to another place if necessary. Pruning should be limited to spring cutting out dead or diseased shoots and removing faded inflorescences.
