Product description
An attractive variety of pieris selected in the USA. Evergreen shrub with a spreading habit. After 10 years, it grows to 0.8 m in height and 1.3 m in width. Dark green, shiny, leaves. Young, spring growths are intensely red. The plant creates dark red, bell flowers. Clustered in long (approx. 12 cm), overhanging paniculate inflorescences on the top of shoots. Flowering is very profuse and takes place in April and May. The variety is recommended for planting singly and in groups, for small home gardens, heathlands, as well as for growing in a pot. Planted in the company of azaleas and rhododendrons, it is an interesting, exotic complement.
Japanese Andromeda grows best in semi-shady or shady positions, in a sheltered place, sheltered from the wind. The substrate should be acidic (as in the case of rhododendrons and azaleas), moderately moist and humus. Flower buds are set in autumn and may freeze during the winter, so it is recommended to cover the bushes for the winter every year. When grown in a pot, pierisa can be overwintered in an unheated room.
