Selected in Michigan (USA), as a result of crossing the 'Bluecrop' variety with the 'Berkeley' variety, which made it inherit the taste from the 'Bluecrop' variety and the size of the fruit from the 'Berkeley' variety. The fruits are large, round, slightly flattened, light blue in color. They are very tasty and aromatic, similar to the 'Spartan' variety. They ripen in August, about 8-14 days after the Bluecrop variety. They are suitable for both raw consumption and for all kinds of cakes and other preserves.

Nelson blueberries are easy to grow shrubs. They are characterized by very good frost resistance. In order for them to grow well and bear fruit abundantly, they must be planted in sunny positions and in light, humus soils with a pH in the range of 3.5-4.5. It is recommended to buy peat dedicated to blueberries with an acidic reaction or to properly acidify the substrate with preparations containing sulfur compounds. Pruning should only be done every few years to rejuvenate the plant by removing old shoots.
